La ville de Touba accueille aujourd’hui, mercredi 8 novembre, entre deux millions et trois millions de fidèles. Pour les mourides, le Grand magal de Touba est l’occasion de saluer la mémoire de Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba (1853-1927).
L’entrée de la ville sainte, en venant de Mbacké, est une immense porte. Dans une intense frénésie, comme attirés par un aimant, les fidèles foncent droit vers Touba, à l’instar de Mamadou, âgé de 25 ans. «C’est parce que tout ce que tu demandes ici, Dieu l’accorde, explique-t-il. C’est pour cela qu’on vient toutes les années».
Lamine n’a pas supporté les embouteillages. Toute la semaine, Touba est saturée. Le jeune homme venu de la capitale Dakar a préféré sauter du bus. «A peine 15 kilomètres jusqu’à la Grande mosquée. Il faut marcher. On n’a plus le choix», dit-il en éclatant de rire.
Djibril, lui, atteint enfin la Grande Mosquée, tout en entonnant des khassaides, des poèmes écrits par Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba (1853-1927). «On est venus ici pour célébrer celui qui nous a aidés, celui qui nous a transformés en vrais hommes, celui qui nous aime devant Dieu,explique-t-il. Il a tout fait pour nous».
Marqués par une immense fête et une volonté de partager, les fidèles qui participent au Grand magal de Touba vont se recueillir toute la journée au Mausolée du fondateur de la confrérie mouride au Sénégal, Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba.
Grand chef des Mourides et concepteur de la ville de Touba, le saint homme avait été arrêté par le colon français en 1895 puis envoyé en exil au Gabon. Le Grand Magal de Touba marque chaque année la date de cet exil forcé. Pour les Mourides, manquer cette fête religieuse est considéré comme un pêché.
