Démographie galopante en Afrique – Mea culpa de Macron : «S’il y a trop d’enfants…je regrette d’avoir eu ce mot»

Le Premier des Français attribue à un lapsus calami les propos qu’il avait tenus au mois de juillet passé sur la démographie africaine. «S’il y a trop d’enfants, c’est un phénomène civilisationnel, et je regrette d’avoir eu ce mot… Je retire ce que j’ai dit sur ce plan-là. En revanche, je continue de penser que 7 ou 8 enfants par femme dans certains pays, ce n’est pas normal.

Et peut-être qu’un certain nombre de femmes qui ont autant d’enfants ne le souhaitent pas», a déclaré Emmanuel Macron ce mardi à Ouagadougou à l’occasion du discours inaugural de sa première tournée en Afrique.

Le président de la République française de préciser sa pensée : «70% des jeunes, c’est une chance, oui, j’y crois. Mais c’est surtout une immense responsabilité. La démographie, ça ne se décrète pas, ça ne se dicte pas.

Elle renvoie à des choix personnels, intimes dans lesquels personne ne doit s’immiscer, c’est là le cœur du sujet. Elle doit être un choix, en particulier pour les jeunes filles et les femmes. Partout où vous avez 7-8-9 enfants par femme, êtes-vous bien sûr que c’est le choix de ces jeunes filles ?

Dans mon pays des familles ont fait ce choix, c’est leur choix, je n’ai pas à juger. Mais je veux être sûr que partout en Afrique, ce soit bien le choix de ces jeunes filles, je veux qu’elles puissent continuer leurs études, travailler, qu’elles puissent faire le choix, elles. Qu’elles puissent avoir le choix de ne pas être mariée à 13 ou à 14 ans et de faire des enfants.

Non pas parce qu’un président l’aurait voulu mais parce que vous l’aurez voulu. Nous devons avoir ce débat responsable de la liberté de choix. C’est une conviction profonde qui m’a poussé à faire de l’égalité femmes-hommes la grande cause de mon mandat : que chaque jeune fille ou femme ait la possibilité de choisir son destin.»  Lire la suite sur dakaractu.com
