Né en le 29 décembre 1923 à Ceytou, Cheikh Anta Diop est décédé le 7 février 1986 dans sa villa de Fann. Savant connu et reconnu, l’enfant de Ceytou fait partie des rares intellectuels et chercheurs africains à avoir très tôt montré la voie de l’émergence d’un continent qui luttait pour son accession à la magistrature suprême. Panafricaniste hors pair, ses recherches sur l’Égypte avait poussé ses contemporains à la surnommer le «pharaon noir». Malheureusement, le savant et homme politique qu’il était, durant toute sa vie a été incompris au point de le sacrifier pour des considérations uniquement politiciennes.
Cheikh Anta Diop, a démontré à la face du monde qu’il était un véritable épicurien qui a toujours cherché à identifier les sources de plaisir et de souffrance en mettant l’accent sur la recherche d’un bonheur et d’une sagesse dans l’unique but d’atteindre la tranquillité de l’âme. Une tranquillité qu’il a su trouver en consacrant toute sa vie à des recherches pour poser surtout en Afrique francophone, sous ses multiples aspects, culturels, économiques, sociaux, etc., les principes de l’indépendance nationale et de la constitution d’une fédération d’États démocratiques africains à l’échelle continentale.
Ce qui démontre son attachement au panafricanisme tout en démontrant qu’il était loin d’être un hédoniste, à la recherche obsessionnelle de la jouissance d’un plaisir éphémère. A ce propos, il faut noter qu’il a beaucoup travaillé sur les fondements culturels, techniques et industriels d’un futur État fédéral d’Afrique noire. D’ailleurs, dès 1952, il a posé les jalons en indiquant la voie d’une idéologie politique africaine. Une pensée qu’il a su mettre en œuvre en allant fouiller dans les temples égyptiens d’Abou Simbel, d’Abydos, de Dendereh, d’Edfou, d’Esna, de Karnak, de Louqsor, de Medinet Habu, entre autres, pour démontrer le lien qui existe entre l’ensemble des peuples d’Afrique. Mieux, révéler que l’Afrique est le continent des cultures, de la langue, de la politique et des grandes découvertes.
Une recherche de haute portée qui a poussé ses contemporains à la surnommer «Pharaon noir». Ce qui était loin d’être un simple sobriquet pour cet intellectuel qui aura été un véritable abreuvoir incompris, malgré ses larges connaissances. Qui peut dire ou faire mieux que l’enfant de Ceytou qui a très tôt établi la parenté génétique de l’égyptien pharaonique et des langues négro-africaines en mettant en exergue la comparaison linguistique entre l’égyptien ancien et le wolof.
Qui peut encore nier que ses écrits pouvaient changer radicalement le devenir d’un continent malade de mille maux parce que dominé de tout bord par les descendants de Zeus et d’Héra ? La meilleure illustration réside sur ses ouvrages tels que «Nécessité et possibilité d’un enseignement dans la langue maternelle en Afrique», «Les fondements culturels d’une civilisation africaine moderne», «Nations nègres et Culture – De l’antiquité nègre égyptienne aux problèmes culturels de l’Afrique noire d’aujourd’hui».
Liquidation politique et intellectuel : le «Pharaon» momifié bien avant sa mort
En réalité, le Sénégal tout comme l’Afrique n’ont pas su exploiter les riches pensées d’un «Pharaon» momifié bien avant sa mort. Et comme toujours, la pratique de la politique est passée par là. Car, en décidant de descendre sur ce terrain, le chercheur-savant ne se doutait pas qu’il tombait dans une marre de crocodiles. Pour cause, en créant en 1961 sa formation politique dénommée le Bloc des masses sénégalaises (Bms) pour s’opposer au président Senghor et à Mamadou Dia, le «Pharaon noir» a fait ses premiers jours en prison avant de bénéficier d’un non-lieu total.
Pourtant, lorsqu’il avait décidé de rentrer définitivement au Sénégal – nous étions en 1960, Cheikh Anta disait ceci : «Je rentre sous peu en Afrique où une lourde tâche nous attend tous. Dans les limites de mes possibilités et de mes moyens, j’espère contribuer efficacement à l’impulsion de la recherche scientifique dans le domaine des sciences humaines et celui des sciences exactes. Quand à l’Afrique noire, elle doit se nourrir des fruits de mes recherches à l’échelle continentale. Il ne s’agit pas de se créer, de toutes pièces, une histoire plus belle que celle des autres, de manière à doper moralement le peuple pendant la période de lutte pour l’indépendance, mais de partir de cette idée évidente que chaque peuple a une histoire». Face à Senghor, cet homme sera mis au frigo pour ne pas dire momifié.
Malgré tout, il crée, le 3 février 1976, un nouveau parti politique, le Rassemblement national démocratique (Rnd) qui ne fut réellement reconnu que sous le magistère de Diouf. Surtout qu’il est bon de rappeler que c’est en 1981 que l’université qui porte aujourd’hui son nom a ouvert ses portes à cet homme de valeur pour qu’il puisse y dispenser son enseignement en histoire. Trente-un ans après sa mort, il laisse toujours une œuvre inachevée même si des intellectuels mènent la lutte pour que son héritage soit enseigné dans nos écoles.

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.
If you’re still on the fence: grab your favorite earphones, head down to a Best Buy and ask to plug them into a Zune then an iPod and see which one sounds better to you, and which interface makes you smile more. Then you’ll know which is right for you.

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.
Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.
I’ll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)
