Mame Alassane Thiaw Lahi est un descendant direct du Prophète Mouhamed (PSL). La révélation a été faite lors du pèlerinage à La Mecque de 1962. C’était lors de la visite que la délégation sénégalaise a rendu à Chérif Hassan Tahirî, un descendant du Prophète Muhammad (P.S.L). Parmi eux, Mame Alassane Lahi, en personne, El Hadj Gothé Biti de Cambérène père de Thierno Sarr Thiome, Adja Ami Collé Sow, El Hadj Sakhir Gaye Imam de la mosquée de Yeumbeul qui sont layènes, la grande majorité des autres pèlerins appartenant à d’autres confréries.
Au cours de leur conversation, El Hadji Gothé Biti suggéra à l’interprète El Hadj Pâla Mbaye de présenter Mame Alassane Lahi au Chérif Hassan en lui précisant qu’il est un petit-fils de Seydina Limamou Lahi Al Mahdi (PSL). A la grande surprise de l’assistance, le Chérif répondit : “oui je le sais car j’ai vu en lui la Lumière du Prophète et il est beaucoup plus proche de Lui que moi de par sa lignée, car il est le petit-fils direct de Seydina Mouhamed (PSL)”.
Mame Alassane Thiaw Lahi, qui est né en 1915, est le fils de Seydina Mandione Lahi et petit-fils de Seydina Limamou Lahi (PSL). Il est devenu Khalife le 10 octobre 1987 suite au rappel à Dieu de son frère aîné Seydina Issa Lahi, plus connu sous le nom de Baye Seydi Thiaw Lahi. Il a été rappelé à Dieu le 24 avril 2001, correspondant au 29 du mois de Tamkharit.
