Le village de Gaé, autrefois appelé DEUW FALL a été créé vers le 16 ème siècle. Le village se situait en Mauritanie au bord d’un Lac appelé « KHOMAC ». Le mot « DEUWFALL » vient de la langue maure qui signifie un village dirigé par la famille FALL. On l’appelait aussi KAADIAAR.
A la suite d’un protocole d’accord avec L’Almamy Abdou Khadre KANE du Fouta, les habitants de Gaé trouvaient la nécessité de traverser le fleuve pour venir s’installer au Sénégal dans l’actuel Gaé. Après d’interminables guerre contre les maures du Trara. Un jour, un pêcheur du nom de Yelly Madiakhère SECK naviguait sur le fleuve au bord de sa pirogue et découvrit le site qui lui semblait très confortable sur le plan sécuritaire, économique et sociale. Alors la population de Gaé traversa le fleuve Sénégal.
Le village de Gaé est toujours dirigé par un membre de la famille FALL. Cette famille est originaire du Cayor. Ils sont les descendants de Mar FALL et du Damel Dethié ndiogou. Le chef du village de Gaé porte le titre de Serigne Kadiaar ou Serigne Cadior. Le premier chef de village s’appelait Madickou Fall Koura Gueye. Le 32ème et actuel serigne Kadiaar s’appelle Elhadji Rawane Fall.
