Ousmane Sonko est sans nul doute l’un des rares leaders politiques africains à oser aujourd’hui commettre un plaidoyer en faveur de la restauration de la peine de mort. Dans l’air du temps, il n’est plus admis de revenir à ce que les droits-de-l’hommistes, appuyés par les lobbys notamment maçonnique, ont réussi à présenter comme une barbarie. La civilisation du 21ème, dit une certaine bien-pensance, est incompatible avec la sanction capitale.
Ousmane Sonko, lui, va à contre-courant de cette pensée dominante pour militer en faveur du retour de la peine de mort au Sénégal. Il argumente cette thèse, en dépit des soupçons qui le dépeignent sous les traits d’un musulman orthodoxe, pour ne pas dire intégriste. Mais le leader de Pastef semble n’en avoir cure, visiblement trop peu soucieux d’inquiéter. Ceci ajoute au brouillage de l’image que les chancelleries occidentales se font de cet objet politique non encore clairement identifié.
