Le Parti de l’Unité (UP), la formation d’Ellen Johnson Sirleaf et de son vice-président Joseph Boakai, ne semble pas avoir apprécié l’attitude de la présidente sortante. Le comité exécutif du parti a en effet « voté l’exclusion » d’Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, ainsi que de trois autres de ses dirigeants, selon le communiqué publié dimanche 14 janvier.
Il leur est notamment reproché des « violations de la Constitution du parti », qui impose entre autres à chaque membre de « faire campagne aux élections pour le candidat du Parti de l’Unité ». L’ancienne présidente et ces trois dirigeants auraient en outre commis « d’autres actions attentatoires à l’existence ou la réputation » de cette formation.
Selon la déclaration, « le comportement des personnes exclues constitue également un sabotage et a nui à l’existence du parti ».
