Les élections présidentielles sont prévues en octobre et les Camerounais ne savent pas si le président âgé de 85 ans va chercher un nouveau mandat.

M. Biya est arrivé au pouvoir en 1982, ce qui fait de lui un des présidents qui ont le plus duré au pouvoir en Afrique.
Le Cameroun a survécu à une crise économique et a expérimenté le multipartisme, sous son règne.
Mais, le pays a aussi été marqué par une corruption endémique et par un recul démocratique: la limitation des mandats a été abolie en 2008, ce qui avait permis à l’octogénaire de briguer un nouveau mandat en 2011.
Les populations urbaines rêvent de changement démocratique.
60% des Camerounais ont moins de 25 ans, ils n’étaient pas nés quand Paul Biya est arrivé au pouvoir en 1982.
Ils réclament des emplois et un mieux-être.
Le parti d’opposition, le Front social-démocrate, a reconnu ce besoin de changement générationnel.
Au début de cette année, son leader, John Fru Ndi, 76 ans, a accepté de céder la place à la jeune génération.
Joshua Osih, un homme d’affaires de 49 ans et ancien pilote, est le candidat de ce parti à la présidentielle d’octobre.
