Les Mourides se donnent rendez-vous à Darou Moukhty, ce mercredi, pour se rappeler la première rencontre entre Mame Thierno Birahim et Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba au retour d’exil de ce dernier. C’était en 1902. Dans l’hagiographie mouride, ce magal occupe une place importante. C’est, selon certains historiens, le second plus grand événement chez les mourides après le grand magal de Touba célébré les 18 Safar.
Les retrouvailles entre les deux hommes revêtent un caractère symbolique hautement significatif d’une relation fraternelle entre un marabout et son disciple suite à un service rendu. Le service en question est celui d’avoir su protéger et prendre en charge toute la famille de Serigne Touba pendant que celui-ci était entre les mains du colonisateur. Mame Thierno Birahim, né à Porokhane, le jeudi 15 du mois lunaire de ” Rabbi al awwal ” de l’an ” charfadji ” c’est à dire 1283 de l’Hégire, 1863 du calendrier grégorien, entretenait des relations historiques avec son frère.
Fils de Sokhna Faty Issa Diop, Mame Thierno avait très tôt fait son acte d’allégeance auprès de celui qui était appelé « le marabout du Baol ». L’homme reçut une solide formation religieuse de la part de Serigne Touba avant de se retrouver sous la tutelle de Cheikh Birama Diakhaté. Il se rendit ensuite à Makala, auprès du célèbre jurisconsulte Serigne Khaly Madiakhaté Kala pour étudier la prosodie. Grand soufi et éminent agriculteur, Mame Thierno Birahim étonnait son monde par la clarté de sa parole et la pertinence de ses prêches. Toute sa vie durant, il s’est consacré à adorer Dieu et à travailler pour son marabout. C’est en 1912 qu’il reçut l’ordre de Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba d’aller fonder Darou Moukhty. Ce qu’il fit malgré la modicité de ses moyens et l’éloignement de la terre désignée.
