Et pour renforcer ces relations, des représentants des deux Etats se sont réunis jeudi 1er mars, à Karang, au niveau de la frontière nord des deux pays, pour célébrer la journée de la libre circulation des personnes et des biens. Dans les faits, il existe encore beaucoup d’entraves aux échanges, et les gouvernements du Sénégal et de la Gambie se sont engagés à tout faire pour appliquer le protocole de la Communauté économique des Etats d’Afrique de l’Ouest (Cédéao).
