La police zimbabwéenne a confirmé dimanche enquêter sur l’ancienne et très controversée Première dame du pays, Grace Mugabe, soupçonnée d’avoir empoché des millions de dollars en exportant illégalement de l’ivoire de contrebande.
“Un rapport a été fait et la police a une enquête, c’est tout ce que je peux dire pour l’instant”, a déclaré à l’AFP une porte-parole de la police, Charity Charamba.
Le journal gouvernemental Sunday Mail a affirmé dimanche que les services de protection de la nature et de la faune avaient établi que Mme Mugabe avait “fait sortir de grandes quantités d’ivoire vers la Chine, les Emirats arabes unis et les Etats-Unis”.
Selon leur rapport cité par le Sunday Mail, elle aurait couvert son trafic en ordonnant à l’administration de son pays d’émettre des vrais-faux permis d’exportation de défenses d’éléphants pour des “cadeaux” à des dirigeants étrangers.
“Une fois hors du pays, ces +cadeaux+ étaient intégrés à d’autres chargements et livrés au marché noir”, a précisé le journal.
