Le Zimbabwe a célébré mercredi son indépendance, pour la première fois sans Robert Mugabe au pouvoir, l’occasion pour le nouveau chef de l’Etat Emmerson Mnangagwa de répéter son engagement d’organiser des élections générales libres et justes cette année.
Robert Mugabe a dirigé le Zimbabwe de l’indépendance en 1980 jusqu‘à novembre dernier, quand il a été contraint de démissionner, sous la pression de son parti, de l’armée et de la rue.
La fête de l’indépendance était souvent l’occasion pour lui de critiquer l’Occident et de réaffirmer son contrôle total sur l’ancienne colonie britannique.
Mercredi, le président Mnangagwa, ancien vice-président de Robert Mugabe et membre du parti de la Zanu-PF, au pouvoir depuis 1980, a prononcé un discours dans le stade national d’Harare.
“Mon gouvernement a mis en place des mesures pour l’organisation d‘élections transparentes, libres, justes et crédibles”, a-t-il répété, reconnaissant que la crise économique que traverse le pays depuis une décennie représentait “une grande épreuve”.
“Mon administration se concentre sur la reprise de l‘économie – qui doit être tirée par les investissements -, la création d’emplois et la réduction de la pauvreté”, a-t-il ajouté.
