Le maire de Gorée, Me Augustin Senghor, a tenu a expliquer que sa municipalité n’a rien à voir avec les dernière mesures prises par la Ligne maritime Dakar Gorée.
« A propos du communiqué de la Lmdg, la Municipalité dégage toute responsabilité. Elle n’a pas été consultée pour une telle mesure et a été mise devant le fait accompli. Et la mairie n’a jamais été associée à la mesure », explique le maire, par ailleurs Président de la Fédération sénégalaise de football.
« Pour la taxe de 500 FCfa, c’est une taxe de cession de services municipaux qui existe depuis 2004. Elle tire son fondement juridique de la délibération du Conseil municipal, en présence du Préfet, validée par les services compétents de l’Etat. Cette taxe est l’une des plus grandes sources de revenus de la mairie. Elle est appliquée à tous les visiteurs de l’île. Elle permet de prendre en charge certaines urgences, comme la gestion des déchets, dont il y a une quantité importante laissée tous les jours, par les visiteurs, mais aussi de gérer d’autres urgences pour les habitants de l’île, qui vivent avec un certain nombre d’inconvénients qu’ils supportent, comme la nuisance sonore, etc. », explique-t-il.
