Le village de Banal, situé entre les communes de Thiél (Linguère) et Sadio (Mbacké), a été le théâtre d’un vol spectaculaire perpétré par un jeune apprenti chauffeur répondant au nom de Pape Gueye. Agé de 22 ans, le jeune homme a commis le larcin aux dépens de son employeur du nom de Khadim Ndao, un richissime commerçant de la localité. En effet, le malfaiteur en herbe aurait dérobé la somme de 11 millions de francs CFA dans la boutique de son patron pour aller se retrancher à Touba, certainement pour les préparatifs de la fête de la Tabaski. Mais sa cavale a été de courte durée, puisqu’il a été appréhendé et conduit à la police par la victime.
Les faits se sont déroulés dans la nuit du mercredi 23 au jeudi 24 août dernier, à Banal. Le voleur a attendu que son employeur soit dans les bras de Morphée pour entrer dans la boutique puis y subtiliser le sac contenant l’argent destiné à l’achat de marchandises. Après son forfait, le voleur s’est levé le matin de bonne heure pour aller se terrer à Touba, en empruntant «l’horaire» matinale qui assure la desserte Banal-Touba. Au réveil, le commerçant s’est rendu compte de la disparition de tout son argent gardé dans un sachet en plastique dissimulé dans un endroit caché à l’intérieur de la boutique.
