Le forum du Crans Montana a démarré malgré les menaces proférées par Le Front Polisario. Le groupe indépendantiste du Sahara occidental dans un communiqué lu sur l’agence de presse algérienne condamne fermement ce qu’il appel un nouvel acte provocateur posé par le Maroc et susceptible de saper les efforts de paix entre le royaume chérifien et la République sahraoui occidentale non reconnu par le Maroc. Selon le texte toujours la tenue du forum mondial du cran Montana à Dakhla va à l’encontre du droit international du fait que cette région est ? Selon le président Sahraoui en territoire non autonome sous la responsabilité de l’ONU.
Un conflit oppose depuis des années l’Algérie pro sahraoui au Maroc qui persiste à maintenir ses frontières au-delà de cette zone. Une tension ravivée par la sortie du président sahraoui, secrétaire général du Front Polisario, Brahim Ghali. Dakhla est considéré par le front Polisario comme la dernière colonie d’Afrique. Une menace qui n’est pas prise à la légère par les autorités du Maroc qui ont renforcé la sécurité autour du palais des congrès et au port de Dakhla ou est amarré le Bateau Rhapsody un gros bateau de plaisance de la flotte de la compagnie italienne Grandi Navi Veloci (GNV), filiale du groupe MSC. Cette sorte de Titanic est un bateau d’une capacité de 2650 passagers et 555 cabines. C’est ce bateau qui accueille une grande partie des délégations venues à ce sommet.
