Le taux de malnutrition a baissé au Sénégal, ainsi que ceux de six autres pays africains. De 2000 à 2016, le taux de malnutrition a diminué de 40 à 50% dans sept pays africains. C’est le résultat d’un rapport publié par le panel Malabo Montpellier, qui a regroupé 17 experts africains et européens, en marge du Forum Afrique de la Révolution Verte (AGRF) 2017.
Le rapport basé sur l’indice mondial de la faim au cours de la période examinée indique que les pays concernés sont le Sénégal (-56%), le Ghana (-54%), le Rwanda (-53%), l’Angola (-43%), le Cameroun (-43%), Ethiopie (-43%) et le Togo (-42%).
La performance de ces pays se produit dans un contexte mondial particulièrement difficile (une augmentation de 28% du nombre de personnes souffrant de la faim de 1990 à 2015) et est principalement attribuable à des réformes institutionnelles mais aussi programmatiques.
À cet égard, parmi les initiatives les plus remarquables qui ont aidé les sept fantastiques à réaliser cette performance, il y a, par exemple, au Sénégal, la création de cellules anti-malnutrition en 2001 et le programme d’amélioration de la nutrition lancé en 2002.
