Le Maroc a annoncé samedi avoir présélectionné 12 villes-hôtes et 14 stades, pour 12 au final, dans son dossier de candidature pour l’organisation du Mondial-2026.
« Les dés ne sont pas jetés (…), le Maroc a toutes ses chances », a affirmé le président du Comité marocain de candidature, Moulay Hafid Elalamy, au cours d’une conférence à Casablanca, alors que la candidature conjointe des Etats-Unis, du Canada et du Mexique est généralement donnée favorite.
Les points forts de la candidature marocaine sont ses « fuseaux horaires » (GMT+0), qui permettront à « beaucoup de pays de suivre les matches en direct », la facilité pour les supporters de se rendre dans le royaume, avec « 70 pays non soumis au régime de visa », et les faibles distances à parcourir entre les stades, a indiqué M. Elalamy, par ailleurs ministre de l’Industrie.
Le budget déjà fixé
Le montant des investissements publics prévus est de 12,6 milliards de dollars, avec un effort public en réalité réduit à 2 milliards de dollars, du fait des budgets d’investissements déjà programmés, a-t-il souligné.
« Nous n’avons pas transformé la stratégie du pays pour coller à la Coupe du monde, nous avons fait le contraire », a-t-il dit.
Le royaume table aussi sur 3,2 milliards de dollars d’investissements privés pour les infrastructures hôtelières.
Les villes sélectionnées
La capitale économique, Casablanca, et la capitale touristique, Marrakech, auront chacune deux stades. La capitale administrative, Rabat, et le grand port de Tanger seront aussi des villes-hôtes, tout comme les cités touristiques d’Agadir (sud), Meknes et Fez (centre). D’autres cités comme notamment Tetouan ou Ouarzazate complètent la sélection.
Le plus grand des stades, celui de Tanger, aura une capacité de 93.000 places.
