Lors d’un atelier sur la sécurité routière organisé par l’Ong Partners West Africa Sénégal, en partenariat avec le département d’Etat américain,le Dr Matar Faye, directeur exécutif de la nouvelle prévention routière, a déploré le fait que les accidents de la route occasionnent autant de pertes en vies humaines au Sénégal. Indiquant que de «2014 à 2017 les routes ont tué 2130 personnes avec une moyenne de 532 accidents par an», il laisse entendre que l’origine des accidents de la circulation est liée en partie à l’ignorance des règles de circulation, à l’inaptitude à la conduite et à une certaine indiscipline. D’où l’intérêt à ses yeux d’articuler l’action publique autour du triptyque formation, sensibilisation, répression dans l’optique d’endiguer le mal. A ce propos, il met en relief le rôle clef des forces de l’ordre, en ce sens qu’elles sont habilités à faire des contrôles, à arrêter les véhicules et à sanctionner en cas d’entrave à la législation.
