L’insuffisance rénale est une altération du fonctionnement des deux reins qui ne filtrent plus correctement le sang. Elle est dite aiguë si ce dysfonctionnement est transitoire, et chronique lorsque la destruction est irréversible, sans possibilité de guérison, ce qui est le cas d’Antonin, dans l’épisode de la série Nina diffusé ce 25 octobre.
COMMENT SE SOIGNE L’INSUFFISANCE RÉNALE ?
Alors que l’insuffisance rénale aiguë peut être soignée (après quelques jours, les reins retrouvent un fonctionnement normal), la forme chronique de la maladie est irréversible. Elle est provoquée par certaines maladies comme le diabète ou l’hypertension… qui détruisent progressivement les différentes structures rénales.
Il existe cinq stades de la maladie jusqu’au stade terminal. A ce stade, la capacité de filtration est inférieure à 15 % de la normale pour l’ensemble des reins. Cela nécessite d’envisager une technique de remplacement de la fonction rénale : soit par dialyse soit avec une transplantation rénale (plus communément appelée greffe de rein).
