La bartonellose, communément appelée maladie des griffes du chat, est causée par une bactérie, elle-même transmise par les puces. Quatre chats sur dix sont porteurs de cette bactérie dont vous allez entendre parler ce soir dans l’un des épisodes de la série médicale Nina, sur France 2.
Elle s’appelle bartonella henselae : c’est la bactérie responsable de la bactérie des griffes du chat (ou bartonellose). Cette bactérie, présente partout dans le monde, se transmet d’un chat à l’autre par les puces. La bactérie est principalement hébergée dans la cavité buccale des chats et déposée pendant la toilette sur le pelage et les griffes. Il suffit que le chat vous griffe et la bactérie est transmise à l’Homme.
Chaque année, en France, on dénombre environ 4 à 6 cas de maladie des griffes du chat pour 100.000 habitants.
