Autosuffisance alimentaire – Le Dr Cheikh Kanté dissipe les craintes

Constatant et se réjouissant de la nette amélioration des rendements agricoles au Sénégal depuis l’accession du président Macky Sall à la magistrature suprême en 2012, le ministre en charge du suivi du Plan Sénégal Émergent, Cheikh Kanté, estime que les perspectives en la matière sont des plus encourageantes, notamment en vue de l’atteinte de l’autosuffisance alimentaire à relativement brève échéance.
En visite dans le Sénégal oriental, pour constater de visu l’état de mise en oeuvre du Plan Sénégal Émergent, le Docteur Cheikh Kanté a parcouru ce vendredi 27 avril les périmètres irrigués du département de Bakel. Plus spécifiquement au niveau de la cuvette de Kolangal ou d’importants aménagements ont été effectués dans le cadre du Programme d’accélération de la cadence de l’agriculture senegalaise (Pracas), avec le concours de la Société Nationale d’Aménagement et d’Exploitation des Terres du delta du fleuve Sénégal et de la Falémé (Saed).
Sous ce rapport a été passée en revue une batterie de mesures incitatives en faveur des producteurs, dans la dynamique de “construire une agriculture compétitive, diversifiée et durable, facteur de renforcement d’une résilience qui tire avantage du commerce international, tout en garantissant des revenus stables aux ruraux”. Ce qui se décline , en terres bakéloises,  par la promotion et le développement de l’agriculture irriguée – à travers la mobilisation d’investissements publics, la maintenance des infrastructures hydroagricoles, la gestion de l’eau et de l’environnement, l’aménagement rural et la sécurisation foncière, l’appui à la mise en valeur et à la professionnalisation ainsi que l’appui à l’entrepreneuriat rural privé.

S’il reconnait que des efforts restent à faire pour pérenniser la dynamique d’émergence de l’agriculture sénégalaise, le ministre en charge du suivi du Plan Sénégal Émergent a cependant tenu à indiquer que la balle est dans le camp des populations qui sont conviées à tirer pleinement profit des opportunités qui affleurent sur toute l’étendue du territoire national. Assurant que, de manière globale, le Sénégal a présentement atteint un niveau d’autosuffisance alimentaire de 63%, il rappelle que des investissements lourds ont déjà été consentis et assure que cette tendance sera maintenue dans les échéances à venir. Ce qui ouvre des opportunités majeures aussi bien sur le marché extérieur qu’intérieur. D’où l’intérêt à ses yeux que les populations s’approprient les produits en privilégiant le consommer local.
