La société Kosmos energy vient de faire une nouvelle découverte d’un important gisement de gaz naturel dans le bloc de Kayar offshore profond après le forage du puits d’exploration de Yakaar 1, situé au large du Sénégal et de la Mauritanie. Il s’agit de 15 billions de pieds cubes, annonce la compagnie.
Le puits “Yakaar-1” est situé dans le bloc de Cayar Offshore profond à environ 95 kilomètres au Nord-Ouest de Dakar, dans presque 2 550 mètres d’eau. Le puits a été foré jusqu’à une profondeur totale d’environ 4 700 mètres, note un communiqué de Kosmos parvenu à la Rédaction de Seneweb.
“Kosmos détient un taux de succès de 100 % dans le bassin, avec six puits d’exploration et d’évaluation consécutifs forés à ce jour, ce qui confirme que notre modèle géologique et nos outils géophysiques sont bien étalonnés. Yakaar-1 a découvert une importante ressource de gaz. Conjointement avec la découverte de Teranga-1 réalisée l’année dernière, nous croyons que cette ressource soutiendra un deuxième centre de production de gaz naturel liquéfié à prix compétitif. Le résultat confirme en outre notre perception de l’échelle du système pétrolier au large de la Mauritanie et du Sénégal, notamment les systèmes de chenaux sous-marins du bassin, pour lesquels les risques sont maintenant encore plus réduits, puisque le puits démontre que le réservoir et le piège sont tous les deux fonctionnels dans ces zones utiles pas encore testées”, réagit Andrew G. Inglis, président-directeur général de Kosmos.
