A Washington, la ministre des Armées plaide pour le G5 Sahel et le Tchad

La ministre française des Armées était à Washington en cette fin de semaine. Florence Parly a notamment rencontré le secrétaire américain à la Défense auprès de qui elle a appelé au soutien des États-Unis pour la force G5 Sahel, et a plaidé la cause du Tchad, visé par le récent décret Trump.

Les Américains sont conscients de la nécessité de lutter contre le terrorisme au Sahel, ils ont récemment perdu quatre soldats au Niger lors d’une attaque, mais ils refusent pour l’instant de participer au financement de la force anti-jihadiste du G5.
Lors de sa visite à Washington, la ministre française des Armées s’est donc efforcée de convaincre son homologue de la nécessité d’un soutien actif de la part des États-Unis. Florence Parly a aussi défendu la cause du Tchad, visé par le dernier décret anti-immigration prise par Donald Trump.
«Nous avons évoqué le fait que le Tchad est un allié important, efficace, engagé dans cette zone du Sahel et donc qu’il faut aider le Tchad à répondre à l’ensemble des questions qui ont été posées par l’administration américaine, comme c’est légitime.»
Aucune explication précise n’a pour l’instant été fournie par les Américains sur les raisons pour lesquelles le Tchad avait été ajouté à la liste des pays visés par le décret. De source diplomatique, on estime qu’il pourrait s’agir d’un simple problème bureaucratique.
