Abdoul Mbaye n’aurait pas agi comme Massata Diack dans l’affaire pour laquelle le père de ce dernier est maintenu en résidence surveillée en France. Dans un entretien avec Rfi, l’ancien président de la Fédération sénégalaise d’athlétisme et qui avait succédé à Lamine Diack, exprime toute sa douleur face à cette situation et soutient que le fait que Pape Massata Diack se terre au Sénégal, refusant de répondre à la justice française, n’est pas la meilleure manière de faire jaillir la vérité.
“J’ai été très déçu d’apprendre ce qui s’était passé. Évidemment, on met en avant pour l’instant la présomption d’innocence. Je pense que son fils, qui a été souvent cité dans ce dossier de dopage et dans d’autres, aurait peut-être dû se joindre à la procédure initiée en France et chercher à blanchir le président Lamine Diack. C’est douloureux pour le Sénégal et ça l’est également pour moi”, dit-il sur Rfi.
Continuant ses explications Abdoul Mbaye estime que le fait que Massata Diack ait choisi de rester au Sénégal n’est pas de nature à aider son père à recouvrer la liberté. Il assure que lui aurait agi autrement. “C’est le choix qu’il fait. Le mien aurait été différent. Je n’aurais peut-être pas été impliqué dans des histoires de cette nature (rires), mais je n’aurais pas laissé mon père seul se débattre dans des difficultés de ce type. Se terrer au Sénégal n’est pas le meilleur moyen de produire la vérité”, explique Abdoul Mbaye.
