Un commando taliban a pris d’assaut une base de l’armée afghane de la province de Kandahar, dans le sud du pays, jeudi 19 octobre. L’attaque a fait au moins 43 morts dans les rangs des soldats, a annoncé le ministère de la Défense. Et six soldats manquent à l’appel…
L’attaque a été menée en pleine nuit, vers 2h50 locales. Elle a visé la base de Chasmo, dans l’ouest de la province de Kandahar. Elle a été particulièrement meurtrière pour les forces nationales : 43 morts, selon le dernier bilan de l’état-major afghan. Une dizaine de combattants talibans a trouvé la mort, indique le communiqué du ministère de la Défense. Les insurgés islamistes affirment quant à eux que les 60 soldats de la base ont été tués.
Le porte-parole du ministère, le général Dawlat Waziri, a indiqué à l’AFP qu’«un ou plusieurs Humvees (véhicules militaires légers, ndlr) piégés ont été utilisés pour lancer l’attaque. Il ne reste plus rien de la base militaire qui a été complètement incendiée», a-t-il confié à l’AFP. Par ailleurs, six soldats sont portés disparus.
