L’ancien président gambien en exil, Yahya Jammeh, est convoqué pour être auditionné par une commission mise sur pied pour enquêter sur ses activités commerciales pendant ses 22 ans au pouvoir, a rapporté lundi un journal local.
Le journal Standard a cité des sources anonymes indiquant qu’une lettre à cet effet avait déjà été envoyée par la commission à l’ex-dirigeant exilé en Guinée équatoriale par le truchement de l’ambassade de Gambie en Ethiopie.
« Nous avons reçu la confirmation que la correspondance a été livrée à son destinataire » a ajouté la source.
La Gambie n’a pas de représentation diplomatique en Guinée équatoriale.
Il n’est toutefois pas confirmé que l’ancien dirigeant gambien a bien reçu la convocation de la commission d’enquête.
Yahya Jammeh est accusé d’avoir pillé les maigres ressources du pays et d’avoir emporté avec lui plus de 50 millions de dollars avant de quitter la Gambie sous la pression de ses compatriotes et de la communauté internationale après avoir refusé de quitter la présidence malgré sa défaite électorale.
Cette convocation intervient après que des fonctionnaires de l’ancien régime ont déclaré que Jammeh leur avait donné des instructions pour retirer des centaines de millions de dollars des caisses de l’Etat pendant la crise.
Depuis le mois de mai, certains biens qui lui appartiendraient ont été gelés.
