Une conférence internationale s’est ouverte ce 23 octobre à Genève. Elle vise à rassembler des fonds pour venir en aide à quelque 900.000 musulmans Rohingyas réfugiés au Bangladesh après avoir fui les violences dont ils sont victimes en Birmanie, pays majoritairement bouddhiste.
La «Conférence de promesses pour la crise des réfugiés Rohingyas», organisée par l’ONU, l’Union européenne et le Koweït, s’est fixé pour objectif de collecter un total de 434 millions de dollars d’ici février 2018, dont 100 millions ont déjà été versés ou promis.
Trois agences de l’ONU sont à l’origine de cette conférence qui s’achèvera dans la soirée : l’Organisation internationale pour les migrations (OIM), le Haut-Commissariat aux Réfugiés (HCR) et le Bureau des affaires humanitaires de l’ONU (Ocha).
