Harvey n’a pas fini d’éprouver le Texas et balaye désormais la Louisiane. Le président américain Donald Trump est venu constater les dégâts dans ce premier état touché, mardi, accompagné de la First Lady Melania Trump. En Louisiane, il a décrété l’état d’urgence afin de prévenir de lourds dégâts.
Après la ville de Houston, la tempête pourrait durement frapper La Lousiane, qui commémorait mardi le douzième anniversaire du passage de l’ouragan Katrina. Des pluies torrentielles arrosaient mercredi le sud-ouest de cet Etat américain, a annoncé le Centre national des ouragans, alors que La Nouvelle-Orléans devrait être touchée dans la journée. Le président Donald Trump pourrait s’y rendre lors de son prochain déplacement dans le sud samedi.
Instauration d’un couvre-feu à Houston. La quatrième ville des Etats-Unis reste plongée sous les eaux. Des milliers d’habitations ont été abandonnées par leurs propriétaires, forcés d’évacuer après le passage de la tempête Harvey. Le maire de Houston, Sylvester Turner, ville de 2,3 millions d’habitants et dont l’agglomération compte plus de 6 millions de résidents, y a décrété un couvre-feu, afin d’éviter les pillages de ces maisons abandonnées. Il aurait dû entrer en vigueur plus tôt, mais le maire a expliqué qu’il l’avait retardé pour permettre aux volontaires et aux secouristes de continuer leur travail. «Il y a eu des pillages… Nous avons eu à faire à des voleurs armés qui faisaient le tour pour dévaliser notre communauté et la victimiser une nouvelle fois», a pour sa part expliqué le chef de la police, Art Acevedo. Au moins un pont s’est effondré, une digue s’est fissurée et des barrages restaient menacés au Texas.
