Horizons sans frontières réclame la lumière

Un sénégalais émigré en Italie, Maguette Niang, a trouvé la mort hier aux environs de 11 heures à Rome. Le drame a eu lieu sur la rue Lungotevere. Commerçant clandestin, Maguette Niang, 53 ans, réside en Italie depuis 1993, avec ses deux enfants. Reporter sans frontières a regretté la nouvelle tout en exigeant que «la lumière soit faite sur les circonstances de ce drame». La Police italienne indique que Niang a été victime d’un arrêt cardiaque. Une version formellement niée par ses compatriotes témoins des faits. Ils ont pointé du doigt les agents policiers avec qui la victime était en course poursuite. Selon leurs témoignages, «Maguette Niang a été renversé par un agent de la Police en tenue civile à bord d’un scooter. La tâche de son sang a été retrouvée sur la rue. Il a été bousculé et s’est cogné la tête en tombant», rapporte le site italien ansa.it. Sur le feu de l’action, les nerfs se sont tendus. Les commerçants irréguliers sénégalais ont manifesté leur colère en bloquant la rue Lungotevere. D’autres témoins ont aussi confortés la thèse de la Police italienne. «Il est tombé seul, il a l’air d’avoir pris un mauvais virage», a déclaré un homme qui dit avoir suivi la scène depuis la fenêtre du magasin où il travaille. Selon le Qg de la Police, «il n’y a pas de lien direct entre l’opération anti vente illégale et le décès du citoyen sénégalais qui a eu lieu à environ 500 mètres (…) Les agents qui ont intervenus disent qu’il n’y a pas eu de poursuite. Aucunes des personnes ayant fait objet de contrôle n’a été poursuivi». Par ailleurs, le Procureur de Rome a ordonné l’ouverture d’une enquête pour élucider les circonstances du drame.
