Le Docteur Papa Oumar Diaw, seul ophtalmologue de la région de Saint-Louis a dénoncé, dimanche, “l’intervention des tradipraticiens dans les médias” de la localité.
“Cela fait mal, je trouve inadmissible que l’on permette chaque jour à des gens (tradipraticiens) qui viennent dans les médias raconter n’importe quoi”, a souligné le président de l’association saint-louisienne pour la vue (ASV).
Selon lui, “il y a une radio à Saint-Louis où un monsieur nargue même les médecins” dans ses émissions.
“Il fait intervenir des gens qui disent qu’ils ont été à l’hôpital pendant cinq ans sans résultat, mais dès qu’il passe entre ses mains, en cinq minutes tout est bien maintenant”, a expliqué Dr Diaw.
C’est pourquoi, le médecin a invité les professionnels de l’information et de la communication à aider à combattre le fléau car, selon lui, “les conséquences peuvent être graves”.
Donnant l’exemple sur la cataracte, l’ophtalmologue Diaw a soutenu que c’est par “une technique très simple” que l’on parvient à la guérir en médecine, alors que les tradipraticiens “au lieu d’enlever le cristallin, l’enfoncent dans l’œil et cela fait des dégâts immédiats et à moyen et long terme c’est la perte immédiate de la vue”.
L’ophtalmologue dit miser sur la prévention pour conscientiser les populations, parce que, retient-il, “la vue, c’est la vie”.
“Nous irons vers les populations pour faire de la prévention, car le curatif est onéreux et nous n’avons pas les moyens pour cela”, a indiqué Dr Papa Oumar Diaw qui invite à adopter les “bons réflexes”.
“Il s’agit d’éviter d’aller chez les tradipraticiens, d’avoir au moins une visite chez l’ophtalmologue lorsqu’on a 40 ans voire 50” a dit Dr Diaw, appelant à “éviter les jeux dangereux des enfants, à être vigilant sur les attitudes suspectes à savoir des maux de tête répétitifs, regarder de prêt la télévision, etc.”
