La protection de l’environnement est un lourd defi que doivent relever la Gambie et le Senegal. Elle commence par la lutte contre l’exploitation illegale du bois dans la region naturelle de la Casamance qui a repris ces dernieres semaines dans la zone de Medina Yoro Foulah, frontaliere avec la Gambie. Pour mettre fin a cette pratique qui prend des relents inquietants, le ministre de l’Environnement de la Gambie qui effectue une visite de travail au Senegal va signer un accord avec son homologue senegalais, Abdoulaye Bibi Balde. Dans cet accord, la protection de la foret va constituer un point important, revele, Lamin Dibba. «Nous avions pris des initiatives pour mettre fin a l’exploitation illegale du bois qui provient du Senegal. Au debut, le trafic avait connu un net recul. Malheureusement, aujourd’hui, on nous apprend qu’il a repris», avoue le ministre Gambien de l’Environnement. C’est pour cette raison que les deux gouvernements ont decide d’eradiquer definitivement ce fleau en elaborant un cadre juridique legale. Par ailleurs, le ministre Lamin Dibba annonce le renforcement de leurs parcs nationaux en copiant sur le modele Senegalais. C’est pourquoi, il a visite avec le ministre Abdoulaye Bibi Balde la reserve de Bandia ou vivent 16 especes herbivores. Des especes pour la plupart qu’il a vues pour la premiere fois.
