Le sociétaire du FC Metz peut jouer à tous les secteurs de la défense, mais l’axe reste son poste de prédilection à l’image de ses quatre matchs dont quatre titularisations disputés cette saison avec son club en championnat de Ligue 1.
Mais sur les rares sélections qu’il a eues lors des dernières sorties de l’équipe nationale, après avoir resté longtemps éloigné de la Tanière, Aliou Cissé l’a utilisé comme latéral droit. Contre le Rwanda en amical (défaite 0-2), son premier match avec les Lions, et ensuite comme titulaire contre la Namibie (victoire 3-0).
L’autre alternative, c’est Modou Diagne, l’arrière central de Nancy (Ligue 2). International des moins de 23 ans demi-finaliste de la CAN de la catégorie en 2015 à Dakar, le jeune défenseur central fait partie des joueurs qu’on n’attendait pas forcément en cette période en équipe nationale.
Mais, au vu de la saison complète qu’il a livrée en Ligue 1 française avec son club, le natif de Mbacké possède d’énormes qualités pour être associé à Kara Mbodji, qui tient la corde pour être titulaire.
