Cheikh Tidiane Niane, est un artiste mondialement connu grâce à ses talents et à sa polyvalence. Son amour pour la danse, il l’acquiert dès le bas âge. L’auteur des livres «Danser entre le ciel et la terre» et «Danse traditionnelle africaine» fait partie de ceux qui ont révolutionné le monde de la danse et lui a donné ses lettres de noblesse au Sénégal. Une autre vision de la danse pratiquée par les hommes a été bien possible grâce à lui.

«Danser la vie et vivre la danse», un leitmotiv bien de Cheikh Niane, artiste mondialement connu pour la danse. Pour pratiquer cet art qu’il dit commencer depuis sa naissance, dans les années 70, ce n’était pas évident, car il n’était pratiqué que par des femmes. «Un homme qui dansait n’était pas accepté, mais j’ai dû mettre mon empreinte pour redorer le blason de la danse et montrer le contraire. La danse est une passion. Normalement je ne dois pas danser, on doit le faire pour moi». Sa lignée est passée par là.
Mais, avec l’accord de sa regrettée mère, et étant un fils gâté, «le thiat» de la famille, elle ne lui refusait rien et cédait à tous ses caprices. Donc, c’est avec la bénédiction de sa mère que Cheikh Niane a pu intégrer le ballet national du Sénégal et Mudra Afrique, créé par Senghor en 1977. Maîtrisant son art à la perfection, Cheikh Niane est sollicité partout dans le monde, avec des tournées à l’appui.
Une expérience de plusieurs décennies dans la danse en bandoulière, Cheikh Niane dit ne pas être en phase avec ce que les jeunes appellent danse : «leur danse m’amuse et me fait rigoler. C’est pas mal». D’après lui, il n’y a aucune cohérence dans ce qu’ils font : «leur danse n’est pas si expressive comme je la pratiquais». Il s’offusque du manque de thèmes dans cet art : «chacun danse comme il veut. J’aimerai que les jeunes se professionnalisent et font des recherches», conseille-t-il. S’il n’est plus présent sur la scène, c’est que le danseur, a un planning chargé avec son complexe Yengoulène, mais il n’a pas décroché.
«Danser ne veut pas dire être vulgaire»
Selon lui, la danse n’a pas d’âge et il donne l’exemple de Doudou Ndiaye Rose, qui a joué jusqu’à sa mort. Des bâtons dans les roues, l’artiste en a connu, surtout sous le régime d’Abdou Diouf qui avait fermé Mudra Afrique en 1985. Son mécontentement d’alors lui a donné envie de créer un autre centre pour la danse. Avec l’appui de ses partenaires Européens, le complexe «Yengoulène» est né pour parer à l’injustice subie et en faire par la même occasion, un autre Mudra. Si ses partenaires ont mis les papiers en son nom et le faire propriétaire des lieux, le promoteur l’explique : «c’est par gratitude. Ils m’ont dit qu’ils ne pouvaient pas payer ce que je leur ai appris. La culture n’a pas de prix. Grâce aux cours de danse, de chant et de cuisine que je leur ai appris, c’est une reconnaissance de leur part». Par ailleurs, il se désole que la danse ne nourrit pas son homme au Sénégal, contrairement à l’étranger où les danseurs sont plus pris en compte. «Danser entre le ciel et la terre» et «danse traditionnelle africaine», ce sont les noms de ses deux livres qu’il a publié en Allemagne pour expliquer le Ba.ba de la danse. La danse étant des expressions du corps qui véhiculent des messages, l’artiste aimerait que la jeune génération qui s’y adonne, soit plus correcte de par la mise : «il est inadmissible qu’un danseur soit vulgaire en laissant apparaître des parties intimes de son anatomie». La danse doit être faite avec classe et finesse pense-t-il. Il trouve «décourageant» l’attitude de certains danseurs : «la culture africaine, et sénégalaise en particulier, n’est pas vulgaire». Abondant dans le même sens, il préconise que les danseurs s’habillent en tenue traditionnelle lors de leurs prestations comme il le fait toujours. Après un constat, Cheikh Niane promet de rouvrir le Ballet Yengoulène pour le respect de la danse traditionnelle, avec des costumes et des tenues de scène.
