Madagascar affronte actuellement une épidémie de peste. Selon les autorités, la maladie a déjà provoqué 25 décès. Le gouvernement qui travaille actuellement avec l’Organisation mondiale de la santé (OMS) à apporter une réponse efficace au problème, a suspendu toutes les réunions et manifestations à Antananarivo, la capitale, en attendant l’évolution de la lutte contre la maladie.
Si Madagascar connaît chaque année la peste, depuis plus de 35 ans maintenant, cette fois-ci, la situation se présente sous un jour différent. En effet, «contrairement aux épidémies passées, celle-ci affecte les grandes zones urbaines, ce qui augmente le risque de transmissions», indique l’OMS.
Alors qu’Europe 1 parle de rupture de stock de masques “cache-bouche” permettant de filtrer l’air respiré dans les pharmacies d’Antananarivo, certaines autorités essaient de minimiser la situation. C’est le cas du ministre du Tourisme, Roland Ratsiraka, qui a évoqué un «petit problème», selon des propos rapportés par l’express de Madagascar.
Le responsable du secteur touristique, particulièrement sensible pour l’économie du pays, a estimé que, jusque là, les chambres consulaires ne déconseillent pas encore à leurs ressortissants d’éviter de se rendre à Madagascar et aucune annulation n’a été enregistrée. Il a néanmoins recommandé aux établissements hôteliers des opérations de dératisation et un renforcement des mesures d’hygiène.
