Le coup d’envoi de la 30ème édition de la traversée Dakar-Gorée à la nage sera donné dimanche, à 11h45, sur la plage de La Voile d’or, a annoncé le président de la Fédération sénégalaise de natation, Mouhamed Diop.
Selon les dirigeants de cette fédération, environ 500 nageurs sont attendus à l’édition 2017 de cette compétition.
Ils seront répartis dans deux catégories : d’un côté les nageurs professionnels, et de l’autre les “amateurs”.
Cette édition a comme parrain le Premier ministre Mahammed Dionne, a dit Mouhamed Diop aux journalistes lors d’un point de presse, mercredi, à Dakar, en présence du président du comité d’organisation de la traversée Dakar-Gorée, Falilou Seck, et du directeur technique de la Fédération sénégalaise de natation, Abelino Gomez Monteiro.
Il a par ailleurs rappelé l’importance de cette discipline sportive, en affirmant que “l’apprentissage de la natation est le meilleur moyen de prévention des noyades”.
“Cet évènement n’est pas une compétition à proprement parler, mais un moyen de promouvoir et de vulgariser la pratique de ce sport”, a-t-il précisé.
La traversée Dakar-Gorée est “un évènement majeur” qui attire vers la capitale sénégalaise de nombreux visiteurs, selon le président de la Fédération sénégalaise de natation. “Elle a une dimension touristique.” Rendez-vous est pris pour ce dimanche 24 septembre à embarcadère du port.
