Facebook souhaite permettre l’existence de ce contenu et s’engage à ne supprimer que les contenus choquants qui sont partagés uniquement pour faire l’apologie de la violence, plutôt que de sensibiliser et ou de condamner les faits, a-t-elle précisé.
Sur les réseaux sociaux, dont les Birmans sont très friands, des dizaines de dessins satiriques, de vidéos caricaturent les médias internationaux, jugés pro-Rohingyas. Mais aussi notamment la jeune prix Nobel de la paix Malala Yousafzai qui a critiqué la gestion de la crise par la dirigeante birmane Aung San Suu Kyi.
En Birmanie, les Rohingyas sont considérés comme des étrangers venus du Bangladesh, même s’ils vivent souvent dans cette région de l’ouest depuis des générations. Le sentiment antimusulman est très répandu dans un pays à plus de 90% bouddhiste qui est sorti récemment de décennies de dictature militaire.
Ces dernières années, les heurts entre communautés ont été nombreux.
Avant la crise actuelle, environ un million de Rohingyas vivaient en Birmanie mais ils sont depuis 1982 des étrangers dans ce pays, qui leur a retiré la citoyenneté.
