Selon l’indice de suivi des monnaies d’Ecobank Research, le franc Cfa utilisé comme monnaie par l’Uemoa et la zone Cemac est dans le top 3 des devises d’Afrique par rapport au dollar américain.
Au 4 septembre 2017, le franc CFA de l’UEMOA a progressé de 14% sur la monnaie américaine, tandis que celui de la CEMAC a évolué de 13%, occupant ainsi et respectivement, les deuxième et troisième places en termes de performance depuis le premier janvier 2017. La seule devise qui a fait mieux et qui occupe la première place est le Metical mozambicain. Il a progressé de 16% sur la même période.
Dans la semaine qui s’est achevée le 4 septembre, la note d’analyse monétaire d’Ecobank Research,révèle d’ailleurs que le FCFA de la CEMAC a progressé de 1,5% et c’est la seule devise d’Afrique subsaharienne, dont la performance a franchi le cap des +1% sur cette période spécifique.
Plus concrètement, les FCFA des deux régions économiques UEMOA et CEMAC, qui ont frôlé la parité de 612 pour 1$, se négocient désormais autour de 550. Cette performance monétaire peut paraitre paradoxale, notamment dans la zone CEMAC, où ses économies de faible taille ont été négativement impactées par la baisse des prix des matières premières, leurs principales sources de revenus en devises.
