La prison de Kabare, à une dizaine de kilomètres de Bukavu (Sud-Kivu, dans l’est du pays), ne reçoit plus assez de vivres pour subvenir aux besoins de ses 300 prisonniers. Pour alerter les autorités, la direction du centre pénitencier a “exposé” lundi 11 septembre, devant son établissement, une vingtaine de prisonniers mourants.
Depuis lundi, d’étonnantes images montrant des hommes en train de déposer plusieurs corps inertes aux portes de la prison de Kabare circulent sur les réseaux sociaux. Sur sa page Facebook, Justin Bahirwe Mutabunga, avocat et coordinateur de l’association congolaise de défense des droits de l’Homme SOS IJM, explique que ce sont des prisonniers “exposés à la pitié des passants pour solliciter leur charité”, faute de nourriture dans la prison. Il a été le premier à relayer ces photos, prises par son association.
