Un total de 87.000 personnes, la plupart des musulmans rohingyas, ont fui les violences en Birmanie pour se réfugier au Bangladesh voisin, a annoncé l’ONU lundi.
En tout, « 87.000 sont arrivés depuis le 25 août », a annoncé le bureau de coordination de l’ONU au Bangladesh.
Les violences ont commencé avec l’attaque ce jour-là d’une trentaine de postes de police par les rebelles de l’Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA), qui dit vouloir défendre les droits bafoués de la minorité musulmane rohingya.
Depuis, l’armée birmane a lancé une vaste opération dans cette région très pauvre et reculée, poussant des dizaines de milliers de personnes sur les routes, au risque d’une crise humanitaire.
Les précédents chiffres, samedi, faisaient état de quelque 60.000 personnes, principalement des Rohingyas, à avoir fui au Bangladesh.
