Comment entretenir la mémoire de la Première Guerre mondiale? En ce 99e anniversaire de l’armistice de 1918, de nombreuses cérémonies vont avoir lieu sur le territoire. Mais un patrimoine s’efface petit à petit : les tombes des morts pour la France. Nombre d’entre eux reposent dans les nécropoles nationales, mais les caveaux familiaux disparaissent de plus en plus.
Il y a 500 000 tombes de soldats morts pour la France réparties dans tout le pays. Cependant, ce patrimoine disparaît en silence.
« En 1920, en France, nous étions face à 1,4 million de morts. Plus de 300 000 [coprs] ont été restitués aux familles. Ces combattants ont été inhumés généralement dans des tombes familiales. Ces tombes [des concessions NDLR] ont une durée de quinze ans, quarante ans, cinquante ans, quatre-vingt-dix-neuf ans. Tous ces soldats morts pour la France inhumés dans des caveaux familiaux sont donc appelés à disparaître et rejoindre les fosses communes », explique Serge Barcelini, le président de l’association nationale du souvenir français.
S’il n’y a pas de chiffres précis, on sait cependant qu’il s’agit d’un phénomène d’ampleur contre lequel Serge Barcelini entend lutter avec l’aide notamment des nouvelles technologies.
